May 5, 2022 Communications Comments Off

The Internet provides us with important opportunities to educate, create and innovate, and it is important that we all actively participate in ensuring safe use. Being more informed and educated about the online world can even teach us to identify risks that a person may face.

In order to use the Internet correctly, people must be aware that it has many advantages as well as many disadvantages. Start by making yourself, your family and friends more informed and educated about the online world and you will be able to prevent the risks that a person may face.

Responsible use of the internet

If you are a mother, father or guardian, talk to your daughters or sons about the importance of responsible use of the Internet and the different social networks known today.

Today, people grow up with technology in various aspects of life, and online activities are an integral part of the realities of millions of girls, boys, adolescents and young people around the world, and of the responsibility that adults have towards them.

The Internet and its use in girls, boys and adolescents

When using this digital tool, we must give priority to children, adolescents and young people, as they are the most susceptible people once they come into contact with this technological medium, as well as with social networks.

Because it is not just about having access to the Internet but also taking into account its correct use, since according to the DQ Institute in 2020, 60% of girls and boys aged 8 to 12, from 30 countries are currently exposed to cyber risks.

Follow these recommendations to guide children and adolescents

Follow these recommendations if you are a parent or caregiver and want to encourage good use of the Internet:

  • Be a good example when surfing the Internet.
  • Talk openly with children, adolescents and young people about the potential risks that exist on the Internet.
  • Help them surf the Internet and find out which sites they like the most and which social networks they use.
  • Show them how to respect others when using the Internet.

The rights and responsibilities that people have offline are the same as those shared in the digital environment. Similarly, when we talk about safe internet, we are referring to the possibility of browsing responsibly, critically and positively.
